Position Overview

McKinstry Farms is seeking a Field Production Manager to help lead and oversee day-to-day field operations. This full-time, year-round role reports directly to the Head Grower and works closely with farm leadership to manage all aspects of field-based vegetable production. The ideal candidate is hands-on, organized, and confident operating and maintaining a wide range of farm equipment while leading crews efficiently and safely.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Head Grower in managing all stages of vegetable crop production, including soil preparation, planting, cultivation, irrigation, spraying, and harvesting

  • Lead, train, and supervise seasonal field crews to complete daily tasks efficiently and to a high standard

  • Operate and maintain farm equipment including tractors, tillage and cultivation tools, spreaders, sprayers, and harvest equipment

  • Safely operate trucks, tractors, and equipment on public roads

  • Assist with crop scouting, identifying pest and disease pressure, and implementing control strategies

  • Maintain clear and accurate records of fieldwork, inputs, and harvests

  • Set up, maintain, and repair irrigation systems as needed

  • Participate in off-season projects, equipment maintenance, and preparation for upcoming growing seasons

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in vegetable or row crop production

  • Strong tractor and farm equipment operation skills

  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record

  • Ability to safely drive trucks and large equipment on public roads

  • Willingness and ability to obtain a Massachusetts pesticide applicator license (support provided)

  • Physically capable of working long hours outdoors and regularly lifting 50+ lbs

  • Strong communication, leadership, and time-management skills

  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)

  • Basic mechanical and irrigation repair skills
