Lettuce prefers full sun to partial shade, especially as the weather warms.
Keep the soil consistently moist but not soaked.
Lettuce has shallow roots and dries out quickly.
Farmer Will's Tip:
"Water in the morning and keep lettuce mulched to hold in moisture."
Best growth between 55–70°F.
Lettuce may bolt (go to seed) if temperatures get too hot.
Use rich, loose soil with plenty of compost.
Side-dress with compost halfway through the growing season if needed.
Harvest outer leaves first for a longer harvest.
Shade during the hottest part of the day if temperatures rise above 80°F.
Bolting: Happens when plants get too hot or stressed. Harvest early in summer heat.
Slugs: Handpick or use organic slug bait if needed.
Fresh-picked lettuce is crisp, sweet, and loaded with nutrients. Best harvested in the morning for top flavor.
